Share Bear Snack Pack Program

Mission:
To meet the needs of hungry children at times when other food resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations.

Program Description:
South Coast Food Share volunteers fill backpacks with nutritious kid-friendly snack foods. On Fridays, teachers and other school staff discreetly hand out the backpacks to children in need so they have plenty to eat over the weekends.

Kids Served:
This local program serves 250 children at three elementary schools. Schools were selected based on free/reduced lunch percentages and poverty rates. Kids are chosen by teachers and other school staff who know their family backgrounds and classroom behaviors.

Breakdown:
$5 feeds a hungry child for one weekend
